Klein Constantia is one of South Africa’s most historic and prestigious wine estates, renowned for producing world-class wines that are enjoyed locally and exported internationally. With a strong reputation in the wine industry, the estate not only sells wine directly to consumers but also manages tasting room experiences, bistro reservations, and wine tours.
The client required a full website redevelopment to modernise their digital presence and strengthen their e-commerce capabilities. The main objectives were to migrate from their existing Commerce7 platform to WooCommerce, ensuring seamless integration with their InFlow inventory management system. They wanted a modern, interactive, and visually appealing design that would improve product pages, enhance user navigation, and promote online sales. The project also needed to support scalability, ease of maintenance, and API-driven product imports, while aligning with Klein Constantia’s corporate identity and branding.
The existing website was outdated, lacked interactivity, and did not provide an intuitive user experience, which negatively impacted conversions. Navigation was cumbersome, and the design did not reflect the premium nature of the brand. Additionally, the reliance on Commerce7 limited integration with their new inventory system, creating inefficiencies in stock and order management.
To overcome these challenges, the strategy focused on rebuilding the site on WordPress with WooCommerce as the storefront. A custom Elementor-based template was proposed to balance flexibility with cost efficiency. The sitemap was restructured to improve user flow, while design mock-ups for the homepage and product pages ensured alignment with Klein Constantia’s brand identity. Technical integrations included PayFast for payments, Mailchimp for newsletters, and Dineplan for reservations. Cloudflare setup and Wordfence security were recommended to enhance performance and protect against vulnerabilities.
RubyWeb delivered a comprehensive redevelopment plan that combined technical expertise with user-centric design. The project included setting up WooCommerce with full API integration for product imports, ensuring that inventory and sales data could sync seamlessly with InFlow. The design team created modern, interactive layouts for product pages, incorporating tasting notes, downloadable PDFs, and upselling features to encourage higher cart values. Navigation was streamlined to make browsing intuitive, while compliance elements such as GDPR/POPI pop-ups were implemented to meet regulatory requirements.
On the operational side, the project was managed through a clear Project Charter, with defined milestones and client approvals at each stage. The development team handled plugin setup, caching, and SEO metadata migration to preserve visibility. The site was built to be scalable, allowing Klein Constantia to expand product offerings and adapt to future business needs without requiring a full rebuild.
The redevelopment positioned Klein Constantia with a modern, high-performing e-commerce platform that reflects the prestige of their brand. The new WooCommerce site improved user navigation, streamlined product management, and created a more engaging shopping experience. Customers can now easily browse wines, access detailed tasting notes, and make purchases through a secure, intuitive checkout process.
By integrating with InFlow, the estate achieved greater efficiency in stock and order management, reducing manual processes and ensuring accuracy across channels. The addition of upselling features and improved product page design enhanced conversion opportunities, while the overall redesign elevated the estate’s digital presence to match its global reputation. With a scalable, secure, and visually appealing website, Klein Constantia is now better equipped to grow online sales, expand into international markets, and strengthen its position as a leader in South African wine.
